simfy is looking for a battle-hardened
You will work with our small and skilled devops-team on all the infrastructure challenges implied by running one of the fastest growing streaming media sites in Europe. This involves keeping the site up and running at all times and accommodating it to a steep growth trajectory. Beyond these baseline goals and the regular ops-chores we offer a fun working environment with flat hierarchies and great freedom for flexible schedules and exploration.
If you're a technology enthusiast who enjoys seeing his solutions come to life "at scale", who knows how to run big systems with minimum pain and has the scars to show for it ? then we should talk.
+ Participate in all ops-duties such as provisioning of resources, ongoing maintenance
and monitoring.
+ Ongoing evolution of our stack; architecture and capacity planning, implementation
and optimization.
+ Assist the application-teams with infrastructure decisions and implementation thereof.
+ Ensure high availability, backups and monitoring.
+ Automate. Everything.
+ At least 3 years of experience in a senior admin/engi-role on a web-application deployment
involving a minimum of 20 servers.
+ Solid experience with system administration of Linux (deb flavor),
adjacent networking knowledge (IP, packet filters, routing, loadbalancing, VPN) and security.
+ Firm understanding of web architectures, caching and bottleneck analysis.
+ Fluent in English, German, Bash, SQL and either Ruby or Python.
Further programming background is a plus.
+ Ability to communicate effectively in a distributed team via Chat, Mail, Wiki,
Issue Trackers, Phone.
+ Config management and automation using Puppet, Chef or equivalent.
+ A strong sense for elegant, low-maintenance solutions.
+ Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Munin, monit, etc.
+ Hands-on experience with physical hardware (racking servers, network gear).
+ Participation in pager-duty rotation
+ Bonus: Prior experience with media streaming
+ Bonus: Prior experience with cloud computing (EC2 et al.)
+ Git, Rails, Nginx, MySQL, Redis, Memcached, SOLR
+ Preferably Cologne, remote possible
